Customers of almost any type of business want to know how much a job is going to cost them before they agree to it. Proofreading clients are no different. Hourly rates are hopelessly vague; they don’t help with project budgeting, and they don’t guarantee the honesty or integrity of the proofreader. To help ensure consistent pricing, I have chosen to charge my clients on a per-page basis.

What constitutes a page? According to most standard paperback books, a “page” is considered to be about 350 words. If you take your total word count and divide it by 350, it will give you the number of standard pages in your project.

Pricing details are listed below. All prices are listed in U.S. dollars.

LEVEL 1 – Proofreading: $2.95/page
LEVEL 2 – Basic Copyediting: $3.95/page
LEVEL 3 – Moderate Copyediting: $5.95/page
LEVEL 4 – Substantial Copyediting: $11.95/page

Important notes about rates

  • There is a minimum charge of $25.00 per job.
  • Postage/courier charges will be applied for returning hard-copy documents, where necessary.
  • Rush projects will be charged an additional per-page fee.

Electronic and hard-copy projects are accepted.

To determine what level of proofreading/copyediting is needed, you will need to submit a sample of your project. The sample will be reviewed, and you will be sent a recommendation of which service level would best suit your project. Once you have decided on a service (and your desired completion time), the total number of pages will be calculated, and an estimate will be sent to you.
